criticisms on the agenda setting theory

Agenda seting theory is when the Mass Media position agenda for public opinon by emphasize specific topics and make them saliance for them (the public or audiance).
Agenda setting theory has a cause-and effect relationship beween the Mass Media and the Audiance because naturaly people usually let information they can easily retrieve from memory dominates their judgement, opinon and decision so when they hear infomation repeadedly and/or frequently, they mostly make them more important, which I personaly think makes the agenda seting theory very effective and realivant in mass communication because when the mass media make so much 'noise' on paticular issues the public turns to be very interested in them.

Criticisms of Uses and Gratification Theory:
I believe the Uses and Gratification Theory has couple of shotfalls because the public has no control over the media and what the media produces.
Why do I say that? We the audiance always consume what the media produces blindly because even though there are sometimes we seem to choose which media we want, to meet our needs, but the point is we choose our kind of media because they make curtain issues saliance issues for us the audiance to want to consume, so in the end the public still depend on the media and consumes whatever informatuon it produces
